Examining the impact of AWD on your business

In December 2011, the EU Agency Workers Directive (AWD), which states that temporary workers must receive equal treatment and rights to permanent workers in respect to pay, working time and annual leave, will be implemented across the North and Republic of Ireland.
 
Whilst the British Government has confirmed that the qualifying period will be 12 weeks, the Irish Government or Northern Ireland Assembly has yet to confirm their stance. Currently across Ireland there are almost 30,000 temporary workers and the forth coming AWD comes at a time when the latest labour market data shows the demand for temporary workers has reached a two year high. Whilst the Directive will inevitably bring changes, the Grafton Employment Group believes that there is absolute clarity on how this Directive should be implemented.
